# DeepWater Desktop Quickstart

## Overview

DeepWater Desktop is the companion software for the [SVC Pro](/svc/specs/svc-pro).

It receives data from the SVC Pro and attached hardware to produce 3D visuals such as: rectified images, disparity maps, and point clouds.

## Getting Started with DeepWater Desktop

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install and open DeepWater Desktop">
    Download and run the `DeepWaterDesktop-{version}-{platform}` installer. If you haven't received one, contact our team at [support@dwe.ai](mailto:support@dwe.ai).

      <Tab title="Linux" icon="linux">
        ```bash theme={null}
        sudo apt install ./DeepWaterDesktop-{version}-Linux.deb
        DeepWaterDesktop # Can also be run through the Application menu
        ```
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Windows" icon="windows">
        The installer can be run by double-clicking on it (Administrator) or by launching it through PowerShell (Administrator):

        ```bash theme={null}
        .\DeepWaterDesktop-{version}-win64.exe
  </Step>
  <Step title="Connect to the SVC Pro">
    Click on the <Icon icon="wireless" /> (Wi-Fi) icon.
    <Note>
      `192.168.2.2` is the default IP Address.
      If you changed it, make sure you input the correct address of your SVC Pro.
      Refer to the [SVC Pro - Getting Started Guide](/svc/guides/svc-pro/quickstart).
  </Step>
  <Step title="Add a Stream">
    Select the <Icon icon="plus" /> (plus) icon next server address to add a stream.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Configure the Stream">
    After adding a stream, the stream configuration stream should pop up on screen. Depending on your requirements, you may want to configure the stream differently.
    Select a depth mode, input type, and network protocol for your stream.
        Please select the left camera (typically the Leader if in Leader-Follower mode), followed by the right camera.
        For modularity, the cameras do not store their positional data, so you will need to configure the sides manually.
  <Step title="Select the Calibration File">
    Next, you can select the calibration file. By default, it will have the correct calibration selected. If you have any custom calibration files, they will also appear here.
  </Step>
  <Step title="Success!">
    You are all set! Once the stream initiates, DeepWater Desktop will begin processing your data.
    You should now see your 3D visuals—including rectified images, disparity maps, and point clouds—actively streaming in the main interface, just like the example below.
    <Tip>
      If your depth map looks inverted or incorrect, stop the stream and
      double-check that your left and right camera inputs were assigned in the
      correct order.
    </Tip>
    You can save the current point cloud to disk by clicking on the <Icon icon="save" /> (save) icon:
    </Frame>
    <Note>
      To ensure point cloud files save properly to the installation directory,
      DeepWaterDesktop currently requires administrator privileges.
      Default save paths are `C:\Program Files\DeepWaterDesktop 1.1.1\release` on Windows <Icon icon="windows" />
      and `/usr/var/dwd` on Linux <Icon icon="linux" />.
      We are actively working to streamline this requirement in an upcoming update.
